In even-numbered years Pacific Northwest Viols sponsors a week-long viola da gamba workshop directed by Seattle’s Margriet Tindemans. Usually held in early July and limited to 35 registrants, the workshop features a superb faculty from across the nation, allowing small class and consort sizes as well as personal instruction and attention. This year, Pacific Northwest Viols will hold its fifth week-long residential viol workshop on July 11-17, 2010, at Bastyr University Conference and Retreat Center in Kenmore, Washington. Director Margriet Tindemans will lead an outstanding faculty in offering a great variety of classes at all levels. In addition to coached consorts, topics include music by Isaac and Senfl, Monteverdi's The Viol Player, Italian madrigals, music by Henry VIII, Bird Songs, Passamezzo Away!, French chansons, The London Cries, and an introduction to Marais. Faculty includes Jack Ashworth, John Dornenburg, Ann Marie Morgan, Rosamund Morley, Craig Trompeter and Margriet Tindemans. In 2008, Pacific Northwest Viols held its Summer Workshop July 6-12 at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. The faculty for the 2008 Workshop included director Margriet Tindemans, Jack Ashworth, Lee Inman, Larry Lipnik, Mary Springfels, and Craig Trompeter. |
